Throughout a high school athlete’s life, there are people that have an impact and play a role in their life. Whether it is someone they see on television or social media or it is someone a little closer to home, these people can be very influential in the student’s life. Jacoby Jefferson has a few people that he says have filled that role.
“My mama is one of the biggest role models in my life,” Jefferson said. “I am so thankful for her. Also, Trent Williams is someone else that I look up to. Mrs. Vicky Douglas is one of my teachers and she would have to be my favorite teacher. She is always positive and willing to help when needed.”
Jacoby is a sophomore at Ardmore High School, where he is a member of the football and basketball teams. As a multi-sport athlete, he has put in a lot of time and effort in order to continually improve his skills.
“It takes a lot to be a successful athlete,” he said. “You have to put in the hard work, have a positive mindset, and be disciplined. I work hard, not just during the season, but also in the offseason. I like to keep motivated by challenging myself.”
“ ”When he competes, Jefferson is not out there by himself. He is surrounded by teammates that work hard and share the same goal as Jacoby.
“All of my teammates mean a lot to me on and off the field or court,” he said. “We’re a family. One of my teammates that I like to practice against the most is Javon Singleton. He motivates and leads by example.”
Wearing the Ardmore uniform when he competes is not something that he takes for granted.
“I take pride in representing my school and community,” Jacoby stated. “I do this by being respectful, having good sportsmanship, and having good behavior.”
When it comes to everyday life, there is a phrase by his grandparents, Honey and Pop Pop that Jefferson lives by.
“God, family, and stand on business.”
