Aaliyah Roberson – Ardmore High School

Success is something that almost everyone strives for. But it is not something that is just given out, instead, it has to be earned. As a high school athlete, Aaliyah Roberson has put in a lot to get where she is today.

“What it takes to be successful in a sport is dedication, motivation, and putting in the work,” she said. “If you cannot do either one of those, then you’ll never be successful.”

Roberson is a junior at Ardmore High School, where she is a member of the pom and track teams. She also serves as the manager for the boys basketball team.

In the classroom, Roberson also works hard to be successful. Along with doing all the work, she also has had some great teachers that have impacted her.

“It takes a lot to balance my schoolwork and my activities,” she said. “I do it by doing my homework on the bus or if I get home late I’ll do it as soon as I get home. I’ll always put my schoolwork before my activities. The teacher that impacted me the most would be my eighth grade teacher Leslie Ragland. She took time to explain everything to me when I needed when I was in virtual school. She stood by my side and helped me and pushed me to be the best. She knew I could be in her class and even in school and for that I will always greatly appreciate her.”

When she wears the Ardmore uniform, Roberson knows that she is competing for more than just herself.

“It means a lot to me to be able to represent my town and my community,” she said. “This is where I have grown up all of my life and people know me. I love it when little girls come up to me and tell me that they love the cheerleaders and watch us cheer. It makes me feel good that I am able to put a smile on the faces of the little girls in our community.”
