There’s a new era beginning for the Madill Lady Wildcats fastpitch softball program as longtime educator and coach Shawn Runyan steps into his first season at the helm. Though Runyan is no stranger to Madill athletics, with 24 years of coaching experience in the district, this marks his first time leading the softball program, and he’s ready to build from the ground up.
“I’m excited for the opportunity,” Runyan said. “We are a very young team, and while we don’t return a lot of experience, we do have some hard-working players who are eager to improve.”
The 2025 squad returns just three players with significant varsity experience, meaning the season will be a learning opportunity for a number of new faces stepping into larger roles. That youth brings energy and a fresh start, and Coach Runyan is focused on fostering a culture built on effort, positivity, and accountability.
One player who embodies that culture is senior Brooklyn Pruitt. A standout utility player, Pruitt earned the team’s Utility Award last season after playing four different positions throughout the year. Her versatility, work ethic, and attitude have made her a leader on and off the field.
“Brooklyn is one of those players every coach wants,” Runyan said. “No matter what you ask of her, she does it with 100% effort and always with a smile. She sets the tone for our team.”
While wins may be hard-earned as the young roster gains experience, the Lady Wildcats are laying the foundation for long-term growth. Every practice and game is an opportunity for development, and Runyan is confident the team’s progress will be noticeable as the season unfolds.
With a renewed focus, a committed core, and a coach ready to lead the way, the Madill Lady Wildcats are looking to surprise some people in 2025 and build something special for the future.
