Walters’ FFA – Kanyon Simpson
Walters High School junior Kanyon Simpson is a member of the varsity football team and the FFA program at school.
Simpson got his start in both at an early age.
“I began playing football in third grade. I took my 8th & 9th grade years off but was excited to be back this year,” Simpson said. “I have been around agriculture my whole life, but Jimmy Davis, my FFA advisor is who inspired me to join FFA as a freshman.”
Playing football is something that Simpson loves to do and being around his teammates and competing is where he is most comfortable.
“I enjoy being part of our team. We are more like a family, and it makes practice fun even when it’s a challenge,” Simpson said. “Coach Griffin has become a strong mentor for me. He is a leader and tells the best stories.”
As a member of the FFA program, Simpson is involved in several activities and would like to become an Ag teacher in the future.
“Through FFA I have competed in shooting sports, livestock judging, land judging, opening ceremonies competitions, showing livestock, and chapter activities. This is my second year serving as an officer for our chapter and I raise club lambs as my SAE project,” Simpson said. “I plan to attend college and earn a degree so I can be an Ag teacher.”
Simpson offers this advice to anyone interested in FFA.
“You should join and do as many competitions and activities as you can! It offers so many opportunities that prepare you for your future.”
