Q&A with Elgin’s Arianna Thomas – Presented by Arvest Bank

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Ari: I am in my senior year at Elgin High School and I am a cheerleader

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?

Ari: Cheer has taught me trust. You really have to have trust in the people that you are basing with, the person you’re flying enables to make a stunt hit because trying to do a stunt when you are scared will never work so I would say it’s taught me how to trust and how to not be scared to trust.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Ari: My former teammates Kam and Madilyn, they have recently graduated but I still call them and ask them about everything. They are some of the few people that I look up too like my big sisters, they would push everyone no matter what because they knew what everyone was capable of and that has left such a big impact on me

VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?

Ari: I am most proud of my accomplishment of becoming head captain and the fact that people believed in me enough to lead them really makes me feel like all of my work is really being paid off.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Ari: I would say that I look up to Aly Raisman. She was such a great team leader for the Olympic gymnastics team and I only wish to be half the leader she was.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Ari: My favorite teacher ever is Mrs. Evon, even though I’ve only known her two years she has taught me so much about life, and just how to be a really good person and seeing how she treats everyone and brings joy to everyone she speaks to really speaks volumes to me

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Ari: My mom and dad inspire me the most they push me to work harder no matter what which has made me be harder on myself but knowing that they always have my back even if I did some bad tumbling they would still tell me hey, you did good, but later they would tell me hey I know you can do better, which has made me a tougher person

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Ari: My all time favorite meal, this is a hard question to answer but I’ll probably have to say any Korean or Hispanic cuisine

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Ari: I want to say thank you to my family, they are my biggest support system and I love them so much and I will forever be grateful for them no matter what
