MacArthur Highlanders – Football Team Preview – Presented by Arvest Bank

MACARTHUR HIGHLANDERS

Coach: BRETT MANNING

7-4

OFFENSE

The MacArthur Highlanders are putting in the work to reclaim their spot among the top teams in 5A. Leading the charge on offense is senior WR Josh Rushing (6-3, 195), who racked up over 1,000 receiving yards last season, showcasing his ability to make big plays and stretch the field. At the helm is senior QB Aivan Locklin (6-1, 190), a dual-threat quarterback who passed for 2,000 yards and rushed for 500 last year, giving the Highlanders a versatile and dynamic offensive weapon. Anchoring the offensive line is Walter Rhodes (6-4, 330), a senior whose size and strength provide the protection and push needed to fuel both the passing and running game. The Highlanders aim to build on last season’s success by refining their execution and maintaining a balanced attack that keeps defenses guessing.

DEFENSE

On defense, MacArthur will rely on a veteran core to lead the way. Senior Safety Adam Auston (6-2, 190) is a four-year starter with an impressive pedigree, having earned 15 Power 4 offers and a commitment to Arkansas. Auston’s experience and playmaking ability make him the backbone of the secondary, providing leadership and a strong presence in coverage. Linebacker Gunner Tate (5-11, 220), the team’s leading tackler last season, brings relentless energy and physicality to the middle of the defense. On the defensive line, senior DE Shaun Hughes (5-11, 205) rounds out the frontline, combining speed and toughness to disrupt opposing offenses. The Highlanders’ defense is built on experience and determination, with these key seniors expected to anchor a unit that aims to be just as formidable as the offense. Together, they hope to push MacArthur back to the forefront of 5A competition.
