Grandfield’s Landry Hunt – Student Spotlight

There are a lot of opportunities that are available to high school students in terms of extracurricular activities. While athletics are always the first thing people think of, they are not the only option. Landry Hunt is a member of the Academic Team at Grandfield High School and she enjoys being a part of the team.

“I was asked by a teacher to be a member,” she said. “And my dad had always enjoyed being a member of the academic team in high school, so he also encouraged me to join. I am proud to be able to contribute to my school’s success in academics. Especially because we went several years without having a team at all.”

Landry is a junior at Grandfield and this is her third year on the team. Along with the Academic Team, she also serves as chapter reporter for the Future Farmers of America, vice president of the Student Council, captain of the cheer squad, and class treasurer. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Gifted and Talented program.

Throughout her life, there have been people that have had an impact on Hunt and who she is and will become.

“One person that I look up to is Addie, who is a family friend,” she said. “I hope to become a doctor one day and Addie is in medical school right now. When I’m able to talk to her she is always willing to answer any questions I have about the process of becoming a doctor. Also, my third grade teacher Ms. Kafer made the biggest impact on me. She was structured and disciplined which created an environment that I learned better in. She also had an old-school teaching style that spoke to me. But most of all, she loved what she did and loved her students.”

Throughout her time on the team, Landry has enjoyed making a lot of memories with her teammates. But she has one that stands out as her favorite.

“The highlight has definitely been going to state this past year,” she said. “It was something I never thought we would be able to do but I am proud of how far our team has come.”
