Geronimo High School senior, Abbey Huffman, sees athletics as a chance to compete, grow, and represent her school with pride. A multi-sport standout, Abbey plays basketball, softball, cross country, and track, excelling as a point guard/shooting guard on the court and centerfield on the softball field. Her drive comes from a deep desire for success and improvement. “The feeling of being successful motivates me,” she said.
Abbey draws inspiration from her biggest role model, Paige Bueckers, admiring her heart, dedication, and commitment to giving glory to God. Mentorship has also played a key role in Abbey’s development. Coach Abbe, who has been both a teacher and coach, pushed Abbey to become the best version of herself. “He never gave up on me,” she shared. “Even when he moved away, I had to trust a new coach, and that taught me so much about growth and perseverance.”
Her path to success hasn’t been easy. Abbey emphasizes that trust and determination have been essential. Earning a spot on her teams and learning to trust the process have provided important life lessons along the way. Some of her most memorable career highlights include coming off the bench to score 14 points in the Comanche County tournament championship game, helping her team gain a lead, as well as her entire sophomore season, when fun and hard work went hand in hand.
Practice is just as important as the games, and Abbey enjoys competing alongside teammates like Kenzie and Sari, who push her to be better while keeping practices fun. She also appreciates the quiet contributors, like Riley, the least appreciated player on her basketball team, whose knowledge of plays and unselfish style make a big difference.
Off the field, Abbey serves as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, sharing lessons and mentoring younger students. Balancing academics and athletics requires organization and determination, and Abbey approaches her schoolwork with discipline and planning.
Wearing the Geronimo jersey carries a special responsibility for Abbey. “My community is very involved, so I always try to be a good role model and carry myself with class,” she said. Abbey Huffman embodies hard work, faith, and leadership, both on and off the field.
