There are moments throughout an athlete’s career that can play an important role in their life. Mason Waite says that last season was a really memorable year for him because he was able to compete alongside his brother.
“Last year as a freshman, it was amazing getting to play with my older brother Max
who was a senior,” Mason said. “It was so much fun getting to be able to play with him. He has taught me so much about soccer. This season as a sophomore it will be difficult not having an
older brother to help me, but with the things he has taught me and my amazing
teammates and coaches I will be able to have an amazing season.”
Mason is a sophomore at Elgin High School but he has been playing soccer since he was ten years old. Along with playing for the Owls, he also plays for Team Cosmos, a club team out of Southlakes. He plays striker and midfield and he says that he depends on his strengths to help him be at his best.
“My overall strength is my ability to see the field,” he said. “I can see the field and make quick and smart decisions.”
Throughout his career, Mason has enjoyed a lot of memorable moments on and off the soccer field with his teammates. But he has one memory that he looks at as a highlight.
“I think my favorite soccer memory is in the Cosmos Cup when I scored a header off a corner
against the 2008 ENRL boys’ team to take our team to the finals,” he recalled.
Mason puts in a lot of time and effort to better his game, but he says that the people that he is surrounded by also help him become better.
“There are so many things I appreciate about my coaches and teammates,” he said. “The main thing I appreciate is how everyone holds you to a high standard and pushes you to be the best player and person you can be.”
