Elgin High School junior Kynli Garrett has established herself as one of the most versatile athletes on campus. Competing in softball, basketball, and track, she brings talent, leadership, and determination to every sport she plays. While her athletic résumé is already impressive, Kynli’s biggest dream is still in front of her, earning the opportunity to compete at the Division I level in softball.
On the diamond, Kynli shines as both a catcher and utility player, known for her strong presence behind the plate and her ability to contribute wherever her team needs her most. Years of hard work and dedication have prepared her for the next step, and this fall, she reached a milestone she’ll never forget. “A highlight of my career was September 1st of this year when several D1 college coaches contacted me,” Kynli shared. “It made my goals feel like they are just about to be achieved.”
Her accomplishments haven’t come easy. From long practices to countless hours of travel ball, Kynli has stayed motivated thanks to her support system, especially her family. “My parents are my biggest role models because they taught me how to work hard and how to be a good person,” she said. “My dad, especially, has coached me since I was six and taught me everything I need to know as both a softball player and a person.”
Kynli’s drive extends beyond athletics. A member of the National Honor Society, she balances academics and sports with discipline and focus. She credits teachers like Mrs. West, who helped her through challenges both inside and outside the classroom, for shaping her growth off the field.
Playing for the Oklahoma Athletics during the summer has given Kynli the chance to compete across the country against top-level talent, experiences that have further fueled her competitive fire. She also values the bond she shares with her younger sister, who pushes her to be her best.
For Kynli, representing Elgin is more than just wearing a jersey, it’s about giving younger kids someone to look up to, just as she once did. With her talent, work ethic, and unwavering competitiveness, the future looks bright for this Elgin Owl.
