Every athlete that competes in any sport all share one similar goal and that is to be successful at whatever they do. No matter what the sport is, they invest a lot of time and effort into being their best. Jayden Ramos says that doing the extra work can go a long way.
“To be successful, you have to practice,” she said. “But I also work on getting reps outside of practice. It is also important to have a commitment to the sport that you are playing.”
Jayden is a junior at Elgin High School, where she is a member of the volleyball and dance teams. Outside of sports, she is also involved in the Multicultural Club, the National Honor Society, and she is the secretary of the student council.
Becoming the athlete that she is today has not only taken hard work. She has also had some people in her life that have had a big impact on her, both as an athlete and as a person.
“My biggest role models are Jenny Walker and Katie Kieper,” she said. “They are the best coaches I have ever had. Even though they are not my current coaches they still continue to work with me to make me better and support me. My mom and dad, Tara and Adrian Ramos, have also always supported me in everything I do. They are my biggest fans and always try to make every game.”
Throughout her career, Ramos has seen her hard work payoff in different ways. She says that one of those was a special moment in her career.
“I think my highlight moment is when I got moved from starting defensive specialist to starting libero,” she said. “I feel like that was a really big accomplishment.”
As a student in the classroom, Jayden has learned from a number of different teachers. But out of all of them, she has one that stands out as her favorite.
“Mr. Freemen has made the biggest impact in my life,” she stated. “He has always supported me with academics and athletics. He has also encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone.”
