3-8

QUICK HITS:
Lawton hosts John Marshall on October 3rd for the first time since 1989. The Wolverines have won
3 in a row with the last Bears win coming in 1982. First year head coach Lorenzo Williams is 4th all-time on the University of Missouri’s sack list with 19 from 2004 to 2007. El Reno and Lawton play for the first time since 1961. The Wolverines have won the last four over the Indians, all-coming by shutout.

    OFFENSE

The Wolverines enter the 2024 season with a clean slate, a new head coach, and the opportunity to learn and grow from last season. First-year head coach Lorenzo Williams is excited about what this season can hold for his squad. “We have lots of new faces and new changes,” he said. “We are excited for the new challenges and look forward to a really good season.” Leading the offense at quarterback will be Pena Vasisgote (6-3, 180, Sr.). He is a solid athlete that plays multiple sports and can play multiple positions on the football field. Joining him in the backfield will be running back Nate Jones (5-11, 210, Sr.), who is an outstanding runner and will look to break things open when he gets room to run. The duo of Perry Graves (6-3, 190, Sr.) and Seth Pewewardy (6-4, 200, Sr.) will both see time at tight end this season. Both have the ability to be good blockers but can also get out into space and catch a pass when needed. Anchoring things on the offensive line will be JR Brock (5-9, 250, Sr.) and Mitch Harrison (6-4, 315).

    DEFENSE

When the Lawton defense is on the field, the focus will be on attacking the ball and slowing down the opponent. Working to cause problems up front will be lineman Tyzel Zachary (5-11, 225, Sr.) and defensive end Braeden Burrell (6-3, 215, Jr.). Focusing on the run and on the pass will be linebackers David Qutaishat (6-0, 215, Sr.) and Amare Perry (6-0, 185, Sr.). Both are good athletes that work hard and should be big contributors this season. Cornerbacks Tyrone Dean (5-11, 165, Sr.) and Marcus Rucker (5-8, 160, Sr.) are going to be patrolling the secondary, shutting down big plays and keeping the opponents out of the endzone. Assistant coaches this season are Cliff Warren, Alonzo Anderson, Xavier Johnson, John Repp, Damoria Vick, Derrius Franklin, and Blake Eastwood.
