OFFENSE
To say the Owls had a dominant season last year would be an understatement. They outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points on the way to an 11-1 record. But their success was cut short as they lost in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs. But head coach Chalmer Wyatt’s squad has big expectations heading into this season. “We return key positions on both sides of the ball,” Wyatt said. “We are looking to keep taking steps to playing football in December.” Leading the charge on the offensive side of the ball will be Ritson Meyer (6-1, 210, Jr.). He had a huge season for the Owls last season with 1,500 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. He also added in five touchdown receptions over the past two seasons. Quarterback Tres Lorah (6-0, 195, Sr.) is a solid athlete that will work to get the ball to his playmakers. Brody Morrison (5-11, 170, Jr.) at wide receiver and Adam Eaton (6-4, 190, Sr.) at tight end will both look to get the ball and make their way to the end zone. Anchoring the front line will be Antoni Ogumoro (6-5, 310, Sr.) and Jace Williams (6-3, 285, Sr.).
DEFENSE
The Owls bring back a solid core of their defense that held opponents to an average of six points per game last season. The duo of Colyn Donnelly (6-2, 215, Sr.) and Meyer at linebacker were a force last season that caused problems for the offenses they were facing. They combined for 291 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two sacks, and two interceptions a year ago and look to continue that production this season. Hunter Jackson (5-8, 150, Sr.), who had 75 tackles and three interceptions, will again patrol the secondary and look to shut down the big plays for their opponents. Defensive end Shay Spencer (6-1, 250, Sr.) registered 25 tackles for loss, six sacks, and two interceptions last year and will look to cause problems this season. Joining him on the defensive line will be Williams. Assistant coaches for the Owls this season are Adam Castro, Jack Baker, Lance Hill, Cody Rowell, Orrin Forsythe, TJ Chase, and Ryan Breeze.
