Velma-Alma’s Brodric Spigner – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Sanner Pipe & Salvage

Brodric Spigner has participated in sports for a number of years. He currently plays football, basketball, and runs track for the Velma-Alma Comets. During his time competing, he has made a lot of memories and had some memorable moments. While he has enjoyed all of them, he has some that stand out as his favorite.

“I think the highlight of my career would be going to state my junior year in both football and track,” he said. “Even though we didn’t win it, I knew what it took to get to that spot again. I also love beating Wilson because it’s a high intensity game with both teams playing their best.”

Spigner is in his senior year and along with his sports, he is also involved in the Future Farmers of America and the BETA Club.

Throughout his life, Brodric’s life has been impacted by a number of people that have helped shape him into who he is today.

“My dad and God are my biggest role models,” he said. “My dad has influenced and motivated me to be the best player I can be, and God has made me become a better overall person. Also, my English teacher, Dr Hlavty, has taught me a lot of things about life and education.”

When Spigner puts on his Comet uniform, he always gives it his all when he competes. He knows that he is representing more than just himself.

“It means a lot to know that you’re playing with not just a team but a family,” he stated. “And  you’re playing for a family which is the fans that take their time and money to come watch us play.”

It takes more than just showing up in order to be a successful athlete. Spigner has worked hard to be not just the best athlete, but also the best student and person too.

“It’s taken everything I can, my blood, sweat, and tears to be successful,” he said. “It also takes a lot in order to be my best when I am involved in other activities. I usually try to keep a schedule with most of the school activities and school work and try to make it where nothing interferes with them.”
