Athletes invest a lot of time and effort so that they will be at the top of their game when it comes time to compete. Along with all the work that they put in, it also helps to have a solid support system to be there for you when you have a bad day. Kamrie Hernandez is a junior at Ryan High School and she is thankful for the group of people that she is surrounded by.
“My grandparents, parents, siblings, friends and teachers have all had an impact on my life,” she said. “I am very blessed to have a whole community of people that are supportive and always willing to lift me up and push me to my very best. But the biggest impact on my life is Christ. He has helped me be the athlete I am today.”
Hernandez is a member of the cross country, track, and softball teams for the Cowboys. Outside of her sports, she is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Beta Club.
Anytime she puts on her uniform, Kamrie knows that she is doing more than just playing a game.
“It means a lot to me to be able to represent my school,” she said. “Since I was little I have always wanted to be a good example to everyone. I want to prove that if you put your mind to it you can do it. As the older I have gotten I have been looked up to by the younger kids and it’s an amazing feeling. When I go to state and I get to represent Ryan I represent it with respect and honor Ryan because that’s where I come from. This little town is full of great people. Also a loving community. So I represent Ryan proudly.”
Throughout her career, Hernandez has made a lot of memories. As she reflects back, there are a few that stand out.
“Definitely being able to make it to state every year in cross country that’s a big thing for me,” she said. “It shows that my hard work pays off. Also, winning districts for slow pitch two years in a row. Also, winning districts for basketball and then winning the regional constellation last year.”
