OUTLOOK

The Redskins are looking to turn their luck around in 2024 with several returning veterans and newcomers who will contribute from the first tip of the season at Fletcher on Dec. 3. “The core of the team returns with plenty of experience,” head coach Ivan Martinez said. “We have also added a couple new faces to the team, which will really contribute quality minutes and make us better,” Martinez said. “With all the new pieces in place, we hope to make a run once the playoffs roll around.” Shooting guard Chris Crow (6-3, Sr.) is the team’s top offensive threat, whose athleticism Martinez cannot say enough about. “Chris has the ability to get to the rim with his slashing style of play. He can also be a tough matchup in the paint against post players,” Martinez said. Clayton Mounce (6-1, Sr.) will share the backcourt with Crow. “Clayton is a fast, really shifty guard. He can handle the ball and get to the rim as well as shoot it,” Martinez said. “Really good defender as well.” Players like Derrick Boyster (6-2, So.), Brandon Alexander (6-2, Sr.) and Devyn Gill (6-1, Jr.) will be instrumental in the Redskins’ success this season. “Derrick has good size and is a very athletic player, has the ability to score at will because of his big body and can jump,” Martinez said. “Devyn is a really hard worker on both offense and defense, very deceiving when it comes to his ability to score. Does all the little things right to help his team.” Guard-forward Evan Martinez (5-8, So.) helps the team in many areas. “Evan is a positive teammate who encourages everyone to do their best,” coach Martinez said. “He works hard defensively and offensively. He has worked very hard this offseason to improve his overall game as well as encouraging others to come in and do the same.”
