Rush Springs Ashlynn Carruth – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

Being a Rush Springs Redskin is more than a title to sophomore Ashlynn Carruth. It’s about doing her best, not only for herself, but also for her team, school, and community. “No matter the situation or outcome, I always aim to keep my composure, hustle, keep a positive attitude, and play my hardest,” Carruth said.

Carruth represents Rush Springs in multiple organizations, including FCA, FFA, and Student Council. She also plays softball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as runs in track and cross country.

“I stay busy all the time between school and sports,” Carruth remarks. To maintain balance in her engaging life, she keeps a calendar with her. It often aids her when she’s traveling on the weekends for sports outside of school.

When asked who her biggest inspiration was, Carruth referred to her father. “He always pushes me to do my best, and is willing to put in extra work any time.” In relation to motivation, family and friends are the first thing on her mind. Carruth uses the desire to make them proud as a way to push herself to be better.

While hoping her softball team makes it to state next year, Carruth is proud of going to regionals for two years in a row. She is also proud to be making good grades. In school, the teacher who inspires her the most is her coach, Kelly Hayes. “He is supportive and I have gained a lot of knowledge from his class,” Carruth said. “He gives me the confidence to do better and to help others succeed as well.”

If given the chance to share words with her younger self, Carruth would say to enjoy every moment. To her older teammates, she would like to tell them to never give up and to chase their dreams.
