Grayson Brooksher, a senior at Duncan High School, has been participating in golf since he was only nine years old. He began by playing in the PGA Jr League at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club. Grayson’s favorite part about golf is that is doesn’t end with high school. He knows that he can continue to play it for the rest of his life.

He has won multiple awards, some of which are the John Strickland Newcomer of the Year award, the Brent Bostick Swinging Demon award, and the Ed Cox Leadership award. His favorite moment in golf was when in his freshman year of school, his team won state on their home course. This is also one of the highest moments in his career so far.

Grayson’s biggest role model and positive impact is his poppa. He’s been very hands on with teaching Grayson and has played golf for many years. “He is always there to cheer me on, but also to help correct me when things get off course,” Grayson says. His poppa is also who inspired him to participate in sports. Many members of Grayson’s family play golf as well.

Grayson’s favorite subject in school is math, because it’s helped to prepare him for a career in welding. His favorite teacher has been Mrs. Curry. “She is easy to talk to and makes learning the boring stuff a little more fun,” he says. For fun, Grayson likes to play golf, duck hunt, and fish. His plan after high school is to complete his welding certification.

For Grayson, being a great athlete means having determination, dedication and commitment. Sports have taught him to keep trying his best and hardest, even when things aren’t going his way. His advice to his fellow athletes is to be the best that they can be, but still have fun.
