The Duncan Demons boys wrestling team is gearing up for another exciting season under head coach Ashton Cooper, and there’s plenty to be optimistic about in Demon Country. Though the squad is young, Cooper says there’s no shortage of drive, grit, or raw talent in the wrestling room. With two returning state placers leading the way and a host of hungry newcomers ready to prove themselves, Duncan looks poised to take another step forward this winter.
Cooper, who’s proud of the work his team put in during the offseason, says that commitment is what sets this group apart. “They’ve been in the room grinding since the end of last season,” he said. “They’re young, but they’re tough, and they’re buying into what we’re building here.”

One of the cornerstones of the program is Bryson Burton, a returning state placer and Fargo All-American who embodies the heart and soul of Duncan wrestling. Burton is a natural leader, both on and off the mat, known for pushing his teammates to be their best. “Bryson’s the kind of kid every coach wants,” Cooper said. “He’s the first one in, last one out, and he holds everyone accountable.”
Joining him at the top is Brodie Harmon, a wrestler who quite literally lives and breathes the sport. Harmon has competed all over the country and brings an unmatched passion for wrestling to the mat every day. “Brodie just loves to compete,” Cooper said. “He’s constantly learning, constantly improving, and that energy rubs off on everyone around him.”
Another name to watch is Hayden Vandagriff, who has earned a reputation as the hardest worker in the room. Vandagriff thrives on competition and has quietly become one of the team’s emotional anchors. “Hayden’s effort is second to none,” Cooper said. “He pushes the pace in practice and makes everyone better.”
With their mix of experience, talent, and youthful enthusiasm, the Demons are ready to make some noise this season, and Coach Cooper believes the best is yet to come.
