2024 Bray-Doyle Football Preview

BRAY-DOYLE DONKEYS

Coach: WADE WHATLEY

0-10

OFFENSE

Year two of the turnaround is underway and head coach Wade Whatley is excited to see what his team can accomplish this season. “We are excited about the upcoming season. Being our second year at the school and having some emphasis on the school for a year has shown in our programs. We are excited about seeing the kids interested in seeing our football team succeed on the field. They have been willing to step up in the weight room and in our conditioning drills,” said Whatley. Rayden Crow (6-0, 175, Jr.) is one of the go-to wide outs in the offense for coach Whatley. Crow accounted for 540 yards of offense with five receiving touchdowns. Blaydn Harris (5-8, 155, So.) pitched in 250 yards through the air and is expected to play a larger role in the passing game. “We are going to do what our kids allow us to do. We are going to have several good receivers who will open the field up for us. If we can find a running back, we will have some veteran linemen up front to make some holes for our running game. In a perfect world we would have two wideouts and a Pistol offset backfield and be able to run RPO either way,” said Whatley. Harris will have the opportunity to earn the QB job and is the frontrunner for the spot.

DEFENSE

A sideline-to-sideline player on defense is Aaron Kelly (5-8, 185, Sr.). Kelly was productive last season with 85 tackles and should have another stellar season at linebacker. Secondary play is crucial, and the Donkeys will look to Crow and Harris to step up and stop anything deep. Crow grabbed 35 tackles last year with Harris recording 40 tackles. Alex Grigsby (5-9, 130, Jr.) is another defensive back coach Whatley has slotted as a starter. Grigsby will use his quickness to his advantage. Up front the man to watch is Roby Leonard (5-10, 165, Sr.). Leonard had 25 tackles as a junior and is expected to be a force inside putting pressure on opposing QBs and stopping the run, but Leonard could make the move to linebacker. Cody Whatley will serve as defensive coordinator.
