For Eli Campbell, commitment is not measured only by wins and losses. It is measured in early lifts, long school days, work shifts, practices and the decision to keep showing up for Hinton every day.
A senior at Hinton High School, Campbell is a four-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, golf and baseball. His schedule demands plenty of time and energy, but he takes pride in representing the Comets and giving his best effort in every setting.
Campbell’s drive comes from the people closest to him. He plays knowing his dad is watching over him, while his mother remains a constant source of support from the stands and on the field after games.
“Knowing my dad is watching down on me and my mom will always be in the stands and down on the field after the game to tell me I did a great job,” Campbell said.
His grandfather has also played an important role in shaping the person he is becoming. Campbell said his grandpa has always been proud of him and has taught him how to be a responsible, respectful young man.
That approach is evident in Campbell’s commitment to athletics. Following a difficult 0-10 football season, he did not allow disappointment to lessen his effort. He continued to attend every day, game and lift, believing success begins with consistency and a willingness to give everything to the process.
“To be successful in all my sports, I feel it’s about showing up and giving it your all,” Campbell said.
One of the most meaningful moments of his career came during his first appearance on the high school football field, when he had the opportunity to play alongside his brother. Campbell remembers being able to block for him and help keep him safe, creating a family memory that extended beyond the scoreboard.
In practice, Campbell appreciates teammates who challenge him. He enjoys working with Izaak Hernandez, whom he credits for pushing him to work harder and improve. He also recognized Taven and Kaleb Cosen as underappreciated teammates because of the daily effort they bring to practice and scout-team work.
Away from athletics, Campbell stays involved in BETA Club and FCA while attending Canadian Valley Technology Center for welding. He also balances school and sports with a job at Canyon Camp & Conference Center, where he is thankful for the flexibility and encouragement provided by Mrs. Judy and David.
For Campbell, wearing Hinton across his chest means showing loyalty to his community. He wants Comet fans to feel proud of their school, athletes and town. Hinton’s athletic programs remain a central part of the school community, giving athletes such as Campbell an opportunity to represent the Comets in multiple sports.
