Each of us has someone in our lives that has an impact on us and helps us be better people. Whether it is someone that we see from a distance, like a celebrity or professional athlete, or someone a little closer to home. The role they play in our lives can be immeasurable. Elijah Cagle has a friend that is a big role model for him.
“My biggest influence is my buddy Christian Estep,” Cagle said. “He plays baseball at the University of Central Oklahoma. He’s always teaching me things and telling me how and what I need to do.”
Elijah is a senior at Fletcher High school, where he plays infield, catcher, and pitcher for the baseball team. Outside of sports, he is also involved in the Future Farmers of America organization.
Cable had his first taste of the game of baseball when he was very young, but the game has stayed with him and he still loves it to this day.
“ ”“I have been playing baseball since I was three years old and wouldn’t change anything,” he said. “I love the game and will always be grateful for the people I have meant to play it.”
Throughout his years of playing baseball, Elijah enjoyed a lot of moments on the field. As he looks back, there are a couple that stand out as his favorite.
“I think the highlight of my career so far would have to be when I threw a perfect game during my sophomore year,” he recalled. “Another would be anytime we beat Riverside. It’s always fun because they talk a lot of trash.”
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become a successful athlete at any sport. But as a high school baseball player, Elijah knows that it is about more than just the play on the field.
“The younger guys watching me makes me motivated to be better,” he said. “I want to set a good example for them.”
As a student in the classroom, Cagle has learned from a lot of teachers, but he has one that he looks to as his favorite.
“My Trigonometry teacher, Mrs. Snider, has had a huge impact on me,” he stated. “She not only teaches school but also life.”
