Throughout an athlete’s career, there are different kinds of adversity that they will face. No matter what comes up, the true measure of an athlete is how they deal with and overcome it. Grady Corbin is a senior
at Dibble High School, where he plays both football and basketball for the Demons.
Earlier this football season, Corbin was running the football during a play. He went to cut up the field and his knee twisted and he fell.
“I ended up tearing my ACL,” he said. “I played about the first half of the season before I was injured.”
With his high school athletic career ended early due to the injury, Grady reflects back on his favorite moments, but he says that not all of them are on the field.
“I think the highlight of my football career wasn’t on the field, it was all the people I’m able to impact by playing football,” he said. “The little kids, and old grandpas who tell me they love watching me run the football. I love my Lord and no matter how much I invest into myself and my craft, the most important thing to me will always be my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.”
Throughout his life, there have been people that have had an influence on Grady and who he has become. But he says that here is one person that has had the biggest impact.
“My biggest role model is cousin Ryan Corbin,” he said. “He played college football and has been there for me.”
Once he graduates from high school in the spring, Corbin already knows what direction he wants to take for his career.
“I want to be a zoological veterinarian,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to be a veterinarian. I love animals and knew it was what I was meant to do, and I was looking into zoology and found out that a zoological veterinarian was an option and that’s what I’ve wanted to do ever since.”
With basketball season almost here, Corbin’s basketball team is coming off of a season that saw them reach the Regionals in the playoffs. Even though Grady will not be able to be on the floor to play this season, Dibble head basketball coach, Nick Price, hopes for a solid season from his team.
“This year will be exciting for our team in several ways,” he said. “We have a deep roster with a lot of guys who could help us on any given night. We also are young with very little varsity experience which I believe will show early in the year but will get better as the year goes on.”
