Chickasha’s Lakiria Abram – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance – Gerron Smith Insurance Agency LLC

Lakira Abram, a junior at Chickasaw High School,  is showing her school pride and setting new records in shot put and discus. Competing in shot put has taught her to focus on her core strength and power in lunging. On the cheer mat, she serves as a base, which requires excellent balance, endurance, and physical strength. Whether she’s on the cheer mat,  launching a shot put, or throwing a discus, Lakiria brings hustle and heart, inspiring those around her every step of the way.

Success in sports does not come easy, but Lakiria has mastered the art of achieving big dreams. “It takes a lot of hard work, extra practice, and staying disciplined.” Even on tough days, a positive mindset goes a long way in keeping you on the right track.  To stay positive, Lakira recognizes her family and her teachers, Mrs Jantzen and Mrs Molder, for shaping her into the person she is today. “They’ve taught me to stay dedicated, believe in myself, and help me grow both in school and life.” She shares.

For Lakiria, a day in Las Vegas is forever etched in her memory. She threw a perfect routine at Nationals in Vegas! She proved to herself and her team that all the long hours of practice had truly paid off. She also recognizes teammate Lyndsay England for always bringing out the best in her and others, especially during challenging moments, showing that there is no “I” in team.

Beyond sports, Lakiria is involved in the National  Honor Society, allowing her to give back to her school and grow as a leader. A leader she enjoys following on social media is Simon Biles. “She’s one of the best gymnasts ever!  I admire her dedication, and watching her motivates me to work harder in everything I do.”  Lakiria also adds that focus and dedication are what keep her on top of balancing both her studies and sports.

Lakiria embodies the athlete every school dreams of having. Her goal is to make the community proud by always giving her best in everything she does for her school. After high school, she plans to attend college and cheer at the highest level, while also pursuing a nursing degree. Her lifelong goal is to help others, along with continuing to make a positive impact in her community, and to solidify dreams for the young Junior.
