Chickasha’s Kiara Alexander – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Community Bank of Oklahoma

Athletes invest a lot of time and effort to continually improve their skills and become better players. Along with all this work, being surrounded by teammates who are of the same mindset is a big boost. Kiara Alexander says she is thankful for her teammates.

“I love working alongside my sister, Nahla Alexander, and my friend, Nic Cusato,” Kiara said. “They constantly challenge me to improve and push myself harder. Beyond tennis, we’re also part of the same youth group at church. Knowing that everything we do is to glorify God, and that we share not just a passion for tennis but also our faith, it keeps me accountable and holds me to a higher standard.”

Alexander is a sophomore at Chickasha High School, where she is part of the tennis and pom teams. She is also involved in several clubs and activities on and off campus.

“I serve as the Spirit Coordinator for Student Council and am involved in the National Honor Society, Junior Optimist International, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and as a wrestling manager. However, my favorite role is being a kids’ leader at Victory Family Church. Each week, it gives me the incredible opportunity to witness children develop their own relationship with God.”

When she is competing out on the tennis court or cheering on her school in other competitions, Kiara says there is one team that she does not want to lose to.

“Listen, I love my Anadarko people,” she stated. “But being a Chickasha Fightin’ Chick means something special. It’s in our DNA. And we simply don’t lose to Anadarko. They are our rivals from right down the highway and honestly, we know it from birth. Few wins are as sweet as beating the Warriors.”

While she strives to be successful in sports, Kiara also knows it is just as important to be her best in the classroom. While it can be tough at times, she says she has a process.

“I do my best to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and focus on what matters most,” she said. “I try to get some sleep when I can, and when all else fails, there is an Alani to save the day.”
