Chickasha’s Destiny Howard
Chickasha High School sophomore Destiny Howard is finding her voice on the volleyball court and in the blue jacket of FFA. A varsity middle blocker for the Lady Chicks, Howard balances a growing athletic career with competitive FFA activities that challenge her to lead, speak and serve.
Howard said what she enjoys most about being part of Chickasha volleyball is the bond she shares with her teammates and their shared commitment to the sport. “What I love most about my teammates at Chickasha is that they are all easy to connect with and they all treat the game seriously,” she said. “The people who inspire me are my teammates, because when I see them get better it makes me want to get better.”
In the middle blocker role, Howard is focused on timing and improvement. “My position is middle blocker and the hardest thing to master in this spot I think would be timing,” she said.
Off the court, Howard is deeply involved in FFA, where she participates in speeches and floriculture. “What I enjoy most about FFA is the community it has,” she said, noting that both athletics and FFA have helped her grow her communication skills. “What athletics and FFA have taught me is definitely communication.”
Howard said she is also dedicated to her schoolwork. Geometry is currently her favorite subject, and she credits her seventh- and eighth-grade advisory teacher, Mr. Voyles, as her favorite teacher so far.
In her free time, Howard is learning to play guitar. Around the team, she points to teammates Chyna Carney as the most vocal and Carney’s sister, Paris, as the one who keeps everyone laughing.
