Channing Haywood – Chickasha High School

There are moments that make an impact on us so much that they are ingrained into our memory. These memories could be positive or negative, but either way, they stay with us for a while. As a high school athlete, Channing Haywood has experienced a lot of these but has a few that stand out the most.

“The highlight of my basketball career is playing as a freshman,” she said. “I dedicated myself to working hard, which enabled me to step on the court and perform to the best of my ability. I aim to make a significant impact on my team and uplift my teammates.”

Being able to see playing time as a freshman is not something that Haywood takes lightly. She knows that she has to keep working hard in order to continually improve her game.

“It has taken hard work, dedication, commitment, and effort to get where I am,” she stated. “I keep myself motivated by learning new skills and developing expertise in a new area.”

Channing is a sophomore at Chickasha High School where she is a member of the basketball and tennis teams.

Throughout her life, there have been people that have had an impact on Channing’s life and helped shape her into the person that she is today.

“I would say my biggest role model is my mom,” she said proudly. “Seeing what she does for people as a nurse and a person inspires me to help everyone in need. A teacher that was influential for me was Mr. Gibson. He was a great teacher and he left an impact on a lot of his students.”

Haywood is proud to be a part of the Chickasha athletic program. She says that when she competes, she knows that people are watching more than just her athletic abilities.

“Your behavior ,sportsmanship, and performance on and off the court reflect on your school and community,” she said. “It involves showing respect, dedication, and pride and striving to be a positive role model for my peers and youth.”

Along with being a standout athlete, Channing works hard to be just as successful in the classroom. And though it can be tough at times, she says you just have to have your priorities in order.

“Balancing school work and playing basketball takes some effort, but it’s definitely doable,” Haywood said. “Managing your time well and staying organized, you can excel both in school and on the court.”
