For Chickasha sophomore Avariona Sexton, being a multi-sport athlete means more than just competing, it’s about setting an example, representing her school with pride, and striving to be the best version of herself every time she steps onto the court, the platform, or the field.
Sexton is a three-sport standout for the Lady Chicks, competing in volleyball, powerlifting, and track. On the volleyball court, she makes her presence known as a middle hitter, where her size, timing, and determination give her an edge at the net. In powerlifting, she competes in the squat, bench, and deadlift, showcasing her strength and discipline. During track season, she represented Chickasha in the discus and shot put, continuing to push her limits and grow as an athlete.
Her motivation is simple yet powerful: she wants to be the best at whatever she does. That drive has been shaped by a commitment to hard work, dedication, discipline, and consistency, qualities she credits for her success so far. One of her proudest accomplishments has been making the varsity team as just a sophomore, a milestone that reflects the hours she has poured into training.
Competition fuels her passion. In volleyball, she thrives on battling other middle hitters in practice, knowing that pushing herself against teammates only makes her stronger. That competitive spirit carries over into games, where earning wins and contributing to her team’s success brings out the best in her.
Still, Avariona balances her athletic goals with academics, keeping her priorities straight. “My schoolwork will always come before any of my other activities because school is more important for my future,” she explained. That mindset helps her manage the demands of being both a student and an athlete.
Above all, representing Chickasha means everything to her. “It means being proud of where I grew up, supporting my teammates, and always giving my best,” she said. She understands that younger kids in her community are watching, and she wants to set an example of hard work, positivity, and respect both on and off the field.
With her dedication and determination, Avariona Sexton is well on her way to leaving a lasting legacy at Chickasha High School.
