ALEX LONGHORNS
GIRLS
COACH: Mark Prince
2023 Record: 17-11
The Alex Longhorns enter the 2024 season with high expectations, building on a solid 17-11 record from last year. For the third consecutive season, the team will rely on a young core, with only one senior, but the depth and experience of their returning players promise a competitive and fast-paced style of play. Head coach Mark Prince is confident about the team’s potential, citing their increased bench strength and returning starters.
“Lots of our younger players have received valuable playing time over the last couple of years,” Prince said. “We will be much deeper this season, with plenty of girls coming off the bench who can contribute. With the deeper bench, we’ll be able to play at a fast pace.”
Four starters return for the Longhorns, bringing back the majority of last season’s scoring. Keegan Seward (5-8, Sr.), the team’s lone senior, will provide leadership on and off the court. Madison Byrne (5-7, Jr.), a skilled point guard, will again be tasked with running the offense and pushing the tempo when needed. McKenna Hurley (5-9, Jr.), known for her grit and defensive ability in the post against larger opponents, also contributes offensively, averaging 15.0 points per game. Kenzie Beauchamp (5-8, Jr.), a sharpshooter with great instincts, will stretch defenses with her consistent three-point shooting.
The Longhorns’ roster is deep with versatile underclassmen eager to step up. Abigail McKee (5-9, Jr.) and Mayce Willis (5-10, Jr.) provide additional size and scoring in the forward and post positions. Sophomores Allie Hooper (5-6, So.) and Allison Foster (5-6, So.) bring energy and defensive intensity to the backcourt, while guards Jemma Schoolfield (5-7, So.) and Trinitee Stewart-Bray (5-6, So.) will look to make their mark as well. Forwards Sydnee Sartain (5-9, So.) and Gracie Montalbo (5-9, So.) round out a sophomore class that will play a significant role in this season’s success.
Freshmen are also expected to contribute, with Madyson Ingram (5-10, Fr.), Kenzie Handke (5-10, Fr.), Kyleigh Waters (5-6, Fr.), and McKenna Stewart (5-6, Fr.) adding depth to the rotation.
