OFFENSE

The Comets enter this season with a lot of experience, and they are looking to improve off last season. Head coach Grant Potter says that his squad has seen a lot of playing time and he is looking forward to seeing their growth on the field. “We are very excited about the 2024 season,” Potter said. “We have a group of great young men that work very hard and are extremely fun to coach. We will return 24 players from last year’s roster, so we have high hopes for their progression. We return all of our offensive and defensive linemen so we will lean on them as our skill guys develop throughout the season.” Quarterback Grayden Deviney (5-10, 190, Sr.) was the team’s leading rusher last season with 1,270 yards and 15 touchdowns. He will be called on to continue that production and lead the offense. Tegan White (5-9, 220, Sr.) and Jacob Bonnewell (5-10, 185, Sr.) are three-year starters on the offensive line, and they will anchor the group that will work to keep the defense out of the backfield.

DEFENSE

The defense has worked hard in the offseason and is ready to hit the field. They will be aggressive and will work to slow down the opposing offense. Krece Douglas (6-1, 190, Sr.) will be a key player at linebacker. He had big numbers last year with 105 tackles, four sacks, and an interception for a touchdown. The defensive line duo of Derek Pratt (5-9, 230, So.) and Beau Brookshire (6-0, 210, Jr.) combined for 76 tackles, four sacks, and a fumble recovery. They will look to be a disruption to the opposing offense. Another player to keep an eye on this season is Zander Furrow. He is a solid athlete that works hard to be a big contributor to the team. The assistant coaches for the Comets this season are John Wofford, Jim Gather, and Paul Wilson.
