Anthony Moncada is an active student athlete at Olustee-Eldorado Public Schools. Playing multiple sports can require a lot of time and effort, but he says that it takes just a few things to be successful.
“You have to be willing to work hard, practice, and have good teamwork,” he said.
A freshman, Moncada is a member of the school’s cross country, basketball, track, and esports teams. He also loves to play soccer, but since it is not offered at his school, he plays in a league. He is also a member of the Chess Club.
There have been people that have had an influence on his life, but Anthony has a few that had the biggest impact.
“My role models are Lionel Messi, Virgil Van Dijik, and Alisson Becker,” he said. “They prove that with hard work and dedication you can achieve your dreams. Someone else that has played a role in my life is Mr. Whitaker. He is a teacher that always goes above and beyond. Not just for me but for all of the students. He really cares about us.”
As a competitor in multiple sports, Moncada has had the opportunity to make a lot of memories. But he says that his favorite moment came as a member of the esports team.
“The highlight moment of my career so far would have to be winning the Palladins ESports State Championship two years in a row,” Anthony said. “That is an accomplishment that I am proud of. I’m also hopeful that we will be able to win another state championship in Esports.”
Being able to represent Olustee-Eldorado when he competes is something that Anthnoy knows is important.
“It means a lot to me,” he said. “Respect goes a long way in sports. If we as a team show respect both during and after the game it reflects well on our school and on us.”
