Jennie Cobb is entering her senior year at Navajo High School with a deep appreciation for both her team and the moments that have shaped her along the way.
A key member of the varsity volleyball squad, Cobb credits much of her motivation to her family. “My siblings inspire me so much,” she said. “They have all accomplished so much, and I know they’ll always be by my side and support me no matter what I do.”
That sense of support extends to the court, where Cobb describes her team as a “second home.” At a small school like Navajo, she said, close relationships help fuel success. “We’re all really close, which helps us communicate and work together better,” Cobb said. “It makes games so much more fun when you get to play with people you love and care about.”
Cobb, who enjoys jump serving but adjusts based on how she feels during a match, also highlighted her teammates’ strengths with humility and humor. While jokingly naming herself as the team’s best setter, she quickly pointed to teammate Carlee. “Her hands are like butter, and she always gives great sets for the team,” Cobb said.
Defensively, Cobb said libero Marly stands out. “She loves to dive for every ball,” she said, noting the team’s overall strength in digging and hustle plays.
Off the court, Cobb stays active and social. She enjoys playing pickleball, swimming and spending time at the lake with friends. She also values her Vo-Tech cosmetology class, calling it her favorite. “Ms. B is my favorite teacher because she makes class fun and enjoyable,” Cobb said.
Cobb describes her team as vocal and energetic, with plenty of laughter along the way. That positive environment has helped shape her perspective. “One thing I’ve learned is to slow down and enjoy the small moments instead of rushing through them,” she said. “Those moments only happen once, and they become memories you carry with you.”
While Navajo’s home gym can be challenging due to the heat, Cobb said the support and bond within the team make every match worthwhile.
“I love my team so much because they are so supportive,” she said. “We’re always there to encourage one another, and our bond makes every practice and game even more special.”
