Navajo’s Levi Ingram – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Chad Lee State Farm

Levi Ingram is a freshman at Navajo High School. He participates in basketball, baseball, FFA, and Quiz Bowl. He got his start watching basketball games with his family, and in first grade started playing in a city league. Ingram’s favorite part about basketball is the complexity and the skill that it requires to be a good player.

“Basketball is complex because there isn’t a set way to play. There are many different strategies, and how and when you do something is up to you. There are ten people on the court competing at the same time. You have to think through many situations, read the floor, and anticipate the defense,” Ingram says.

The highest moment in his career so far has been playing point guard and being the leader for his team.

Ingram’s biggest positive impact is his dad. He pushes Ingram to work hard, supports him, is someone that he can look up to, and gives great advice. His biggest role model is Jesus, because he is who Ingram wants to model his life after.

In his free time, Ingram likes to read, hang out with family and friends, and watch sports. His favorite subject in school is history, because he enjoys learning about the past and finds it interesting. His favorite teacher is, Mr. Curry, because he makes the class fun and makes everyone feel appreciated. After high school, Ingram plans to go to college, taking sports as far as he can, with an end goal of becoming a coach.

To Ingram, being a great athlete means having a great work ethic, being mentally tough, willing to do the hard things, and giving it all that you’ve got. Sports have taught him that you have to work hard to get what you want, how to respond when you fail, and how to be mentally tough. When things get tough for Ingram, his dad and his faith in God motivate him to keep going. His advice to fellow athletes is not to give up.

“If you want to achieve something, work hard enough and push yourself to do it,” Ingram says.
