When Destiny Carrier entered the sixth grade, she was already involved in the 4-H Club, but when she entered the eighth grade, Carrier made the move to FFA. Now she is a freshman at Mangum High School and continues to participate in the FFA program.
“I’ve always had a thing with animals and farming throughout my life and then middle school year. I heard a bunch of kids talking about FFA and then I got the chance to be involved with agriculture and I joined, and I just fell in love instantly with FFA,” Carrier said. “I enjoy being able to learn more about animal life and farming. I enjoy being able to get out in the community and help around and just being involved in something so big in a little town. I am also involved in rodeo, and I am the rodeo Queen 2024-25 for Mangum.”
Carrier serves as a reporter for the freshman group and is involved in Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Creed and showing livestock.
“I show a Semimetal Heifer named Disco, a Red Angus Heifer named Medusa, a Hamp Barrow named Metallic, and a Hamp/ Dark cross Gilt named Metallica,” said Carrier.
Also a member of the softball team, Carrier said she loves playing the game and being around her teammates.
“I play outfield in softball; I am a pitcher and I’ve played 1st base,” Carrier said. “I love the game because it shows all the hard work and practice hours it’s took to get to where you are. I love my teammates because they’re always there to pick you up and help you if you’re struggling. They’re always loud and cheering for you or saying positive things even when you struck out or missed a ball.”
Carrier plans to continue working in agriculture after high school.
“My plans after I graduate are to go to OSU for agriculture and learn Vet Science and get a business degree in agriculture. I plan to own my own cattle and pig company when I get out of college.”
