Mangum’s Abree Hooper – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

Mangum High School sophomore Abree Hopper is the kind of athlete whose heart shines as brightly as her hustle. A three-sport competitor, Abree plays basketball, softball, and cheers, constantly balancing practices, games, and schoolwork with a determination that inspires those around her. On the basketball court, she finds her rhythm as a shooting guard, while on the softball diamond, she covers first or second base with composure and precision.

For Abree, motivation comes from gratitude. “I’m blessed to even have the opportunity to play,” she says. “There are people who don’t get the chance, so I’m thankful every time I step on the court or field.” Her younger siblings also drive her to lead by example, showing them that dreams are possible, even when they feel out of reach.

Her parents stand as her biggest role models, always there through wins and losses. “They never fail to show up and be proud,” Abree shares. “They influence me to keep trying and give my all even when things get hard.” She also credits Mrs. Thurman, a teacher who made a lasting impact. “She was strict, but for a reason,” Abree recalls. “She made me feel seen and taught me to take responsibility in and out of class.”

Abree’s path to success has taken sacrifice. Summers spent on the field, missed weekends with friends, and skipped events; each moment, she says, was worth it. The payoffs include unforgettable tournaments filled with new friends, new places, and lasting memories.

When it comes to competition, Abree enjoys facing friends she meets in travel ball. “It makes it more fun when you get to compete and earn bragging rights,” she laughs. In practice, she values matchups with Hallie, Hanna, and Gracie, who each challenge her in unique ways. She also admires teammate Bella Dungeon, calling her “the least appreciated but one of the hardest-working players on the team.”

Outside of sports, Abree is deeply involved in her church youth group at The Light House Church, National Honor Society, student council, and Gifted and Talented. Through it all, she stays grounded by her faith and the support of her community, a community she proudly represents every time she puts on her Mangum jersey.
