Baseball is the perfect sport for Matt Parker. It is fun and competitive. He loves being able to engage in fierce competition while having fun. Matt is a junior at Hollis High School who plays centerfield for the Hollis Tigers.
The hard work put in on the field is more meaningful when done as a team. “My favorite part about being on a team is just how funny they are,” he adds, “and we have a good time.”
Like most young players, Matt started out playing T-ball. “Dad signed me up to play and I have been playing baseball ever since.” As a high school player, he is experiencing a new level of competition representing his school as a student-athlete. “I like my high school and I want to help them win.” This is his way of giving back to the school that has given him so much.
He is thankful to his family for all the support they have given him through the years. “My parents inspire me the most because they are always there for me and push me to be the best. My brother is probably the best teammate that lives. He made the best impression on me because he works hard,” said Matt.
When it comes to personal accomplishments, Matt says there is no single accomplishment standing out over the rest. His entire sophomore year was pretty fun. This is something he will always look back on and remember fondly.
Coach Tune is Matt’s favorite teacher. He makes class fun, and it is just enjoyable to be around him.
The best advice, according to Matt, is in a quote from baseball legend Babe Ruth. “Never let the fear of sticking out get in your way.”
Matt wants to go to college after graduating but hasn’t decided where yet. In the meantime, he wants to enjoy his last two years of high school playing sports with his friends.
