Hollis’ Jaycee McFerrin – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Harmon Memorial Hospital

Athletes make a lot of memories during their career. While some may be memorable moments of team bonding, others could be reaching a milestone or team championship. Jaycee McFerrin has a couple of things that are at the top of her list of favorite memories.

“I think winning districts during my sophomore year is the highlight of my career so far,” she said. “It was special because we were not expected to win. Also, I recently completed  my 500th strikeout.. I now sit at 536 strikeouts and our school record is 581.”

McFerrin is a junior at Hollis High School, where she is a member of the softball and track teams.

As an athlete at Hollis, Jaycee knows that competing for the Tigers is something that is about more than just the players on the field.

“It means a lot to me to be able to represent Hollis,” she said. “The people in this town are like no other. Everyone is always so supportive, and they will make sure you have anything you need to be successful. Not one athlete in this town goes without. I am sure many athletes think this about their town, but I can assure you the support we get here has to be the best in Oklahoma.”

Jaycee’s teammates have played a role in her becoming the athlete that she is today.

“The teammate I enjoy practicing against the most is our catcher, Karlee McFerrin,” she said. “She is my younger sister and we are both super competitive and she is one who will push me the most. We don’t exactly always get along, but in the end she is my biggest motivator.

Along with her teammates, Jaycee has also had some adults that have had an impact on her and helped her become a better athlete and person.

“There are two teachers that have had a huge impact on my life,” she said. “They also happen to be my coaches as well. Coach Hodges and coach Hightower have both taught me many lessons, and both have helped me grow as a person. They both have taught me many lessons on things that aren’t just sports related. I know I can count on them anytime for anything I need help with.”
