Granite’s Brynlea Jackson – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Rodney Calhoun, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance

At Granite High School, sophomore Brynlea Jackson has already established herself as a standout multi-sport athlete, competing in fast-pitch softball, slow-pitch softball and basketball. Her long-term vision is clear: she wants to play softball at the collegiate level, and every season is another step toward that goal. Backed by a strong support system of family, friends, teammates and coaches, Brynlea attacks practices and games with a competitive mindset and a willingness to put in extra work.

Her parents and coaches have become guiding influences in shaping both her athletic career and personal growth. From home, she has learned the importance of hard work, dedication and keeping family at the center, values that carry over to long days at the field and in the gym. Coaches have challenged her to embrace discipline, teamwork and resilience, helping her understand that success often comes from responding to setbacks the right way. In the classroom, teacher Mrs. Fixico plays a crucial role by helping Brynlea manage the demands of playoff runs, practices and assignments, making sure she stays organized and motivated academically.

To excel in her sports, Brynlea commits significant time to pitching lessons, hitting sessions and individual skill work, spending countless hours at the softball field refining the details of her game. She prioritizes mental toughness, learning to turn mistakes into opportunities to improve rather than dwelling on them. That mindset paid off during a memorable regional slow-pitch tournament, where she launched a grand slam and followed it with another home run, helping Granite reach the state tournament in softball for the first time in school history.

In practices, Brynlea values the way her teammates push each other to get better, noting how players like Charlie stand out as energetic presences who keep things light while still competitive. She also appreciates the often overlooked importance of positions like first base and catcher, understanding how they anchor a defense and impact every inning. Balancing school and sports means minimizing social distractions and maximizing class time, a strategy supported by teachers who provide time for students to stay caught up. When Brynlea steps on the field or court, she knows she is representing not just herself but her teammates, coaches, family and the broader Granite community, and she plays with pride every chance she gets.
