Frederick Teacher – Brandon Gibson – Teacher Spotlight – Presented by Jackson County Memorial Hospital

Brandon Gibson, a dedicated educator at Frederick High School, has spent the last seven years helping students explore the world through the lens of history, geography, and culture. Teaching grades nine through twelfth, he brings both passion and empathy to every lesson, creating an environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and discover their potential.

Education runs deep in Brandon’s family. His mother, Candy Gibson, a veteran math teacher at Frederick Middle School, inspired him from an early age with her patience and devotion. His father, Jeff Gibson, serves as Engineering Manager at Henniges Automotive, while his younger brother, Stephen, also works in the engineering field. Growing up surrounded by strong role models in both education and professional life, Brandon learned the value of dedication and mentorship, lessons he now carries into his classroom every day.

Brandon’s own journey into education was shaped not only by his mother but also by influential professors at Cameron University, including Dr. Lance Janda and Dr. Sarah Eppler Janda, who instilled in him a love of learning and a desire to help others. Reflecting on his high school years, he credits teachers like Mrs. Franklin-Gray and Mrs. Jana Cobb for sparking his interest in history and sharpening his communication skills. Those experiences inspired Brandon to become the kind of educator who fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and personal growth in every student.

Outside the classroom, Brandon is equally active. He serves as the Student Council Sponsor at Frederick High School and as Head Golf Coach for the Frederick Lady Bombers, overseeing both high school and middle school programs. Golf, in particular, offers him a way to connect with family and enjoy some friendly competition, while summers are often filled with travel and new experiences.

For Brandon, teaching is about more than sharing facts; it’s about guiding students toward understanding, helping them grow, and witnessing those “aha” moments that make learning unforgettable. He takes to heart the best advice he’s ever received: focus on the students, take each day at a time, and aim for excellence rather than perfection. Through his dedication, Gibson continues to shape not only academic minds but also the futures of countless young people in Frederick.
