There is a lot of time and effort that is dedicated to being a successful person. It is not something that is just handed out, instead, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to be your best. As a dual-sport athlete, Braden Gable knows what it takes to be at the top of his game in each of his sports.
“For me to be successful in both basketball and golf, I need to have a good work ethic and a clear head,” he said.
Braden is a junior at Duke High School. He plays point guard on the basketball court and is the one bag on the golf course. Along with his work, he knows that helping himself stay focused is also vital. Not just in sports but also in the classroom.
“To balance school work and sports, you have to focus,” Braden said. “The quicker you finish the assignment, the less you have to worry about it.”
There have been people throughout his life that have helped shape Gable into the person that he is today. But he says that there are a few that stand out the most.
“Some of my biggest role models are my parents,” he said. “They have shown me that there are bigger things in life than just work and sports. Another would be my teacher, Mrs. Birdwell. She made school more enjoyable.”
Braden has made a lot of memories during his time playing sports, but he has a couple that he looks to as his favorite.
“I think the highlight of my career was when we made it to regionals in golf in 2024,” he said. “Another would be defying all odds and making it to state in basketball this season.”
Whether he is on the court or the course, wearing his school colors and playing for his team is something that Gable is proud to do.
“It means a lot to represent my community,” he said. “To know whether or not you win or lose that you have an amazing community that is always in support of you.”
