Levi Hunter is only a sophomore, but basketball is already teaching him valuable life lessons. “Mistakes happen,” he says, “it’s part of life, don’t let them define you.”
Levi plays center for the Altus Bulldogs basketball team. His favorite part of playing center is not having to dribble the ball down the floor. One of his best memories is when he hit a 3-point shot from the corner in a close game. “It gave us the lead and the other team called a time-out. Our crowd went crazy!” he recalls.
Playing for the home crowd and hearing the cheering fans is now one of the best feelings but he remembers how stressful his first home game as a starter was. “I was really nervous and my teammate Cole Osborne told me, ‘The sooner you realize it’s just a game the better you’ll play.’”
“ ”Another teammate who leaves a big impression is Braylon Madison. “He graduated last year and was the most popular kid in the school. He was kind to everyone no matter who they were or what grade they were in. He had a big impact on me. Not just on the court but off the court as well,” said Levi.
His passion for basketball stems from faith. “I feel this is what God is calling me to do for now and I want to glorify Him through it.” His favorite teacher is Mrs. Bennett from freshman Spanish. “She did not just give work, she actually taught. More than that, she knew I was a Christian and always held me to a higher standard,” he says.
Levi is inspired by his dad who works hard for their family. “My dad was my first coach and taught me almost everything I know today about basketball,” says Levi. “I would like to thank my parents for everything they’ve done for me and for being so supportive. I would also like to thank my brother for always being there for me.”
Other activities Levi enjoys are playing piano and hanging out with his brother and their friends.
