Jett Freeland loves playing his favorite sport with friends and teammates. Basketball players spend a lot of time together. From bus rides to practice, the time spent bonding as a team is important to Jett. A well-bonded team is a stronger team.
Jett is a shooting guard and small forward for the Altus Bulldogs. He likes scoring inside and outside the 3-point line. Now a sophomore, he started learning how to shoot the ball at an early age. “My dad got me into the sport when I was little, I started making shots and shooting 3-point shots when I was three years old,” he said.
Coach Tuan is his favorite teacher. “He has taught me to work hard and never give up on my goals because it pays off. He has worked with me on perfecting my shot, driving into the goal, and building my own self-confidence,” said Jett.
“ ”The best advice that anyone has given him is “Never give up. If you don’t like where you are, put in the work and earn your spot.”
Jett’s strong work ethic comes from his parents. “They push me to keep going even when I’m exhausted and don’t want to.” Another person who influences him to put in extra effort is teammate, Cole Adams. “He motivates me to work hard. He always asks me to stay longer in the gym,” said Jett.
Playing basketball allows Jett to meet players and coaches from other schools who share the same love for the sport. He has learned skills that make him a better player but will also help him in day-to-day life. “Keep working hard and you’ll get what you want,” he says.
Jett wants to thank his girlfriend, Lizzie Humble for supporting him, win or lose.
Basketball is not the only sport Jett is good at. “In my free time, I also enjoy golfing. I think I’m pretty good.” After high school he hopes to continue his education and play basketball in college.
