Evyn Bull is a sophomore at Altus High School who dreams of playing tennis at the college level. “Tennis has taught me that I have to be patient and when I am behind not to give up because it is always possible to make a comeback,” she says. “Don’t let one point defeat you, shake it off and move on. Take one point at a time.”
Evyn plays #2 doubles on the varsity tennis team. As a freshman Evyn represented the Altus Bulldogs at state alongside her doubles partner Kelbi Greer. Together, they placed third with a win against Booker T. Washington.
“Kelbi Greer has left the biggest impression on me. Last year when I came in as a freshman, Kelbi welcomed me and helped me in tough match situations to stay calm. She was always positive and encouraging.”
Evyn has a special relationship with all her tennis coaches. “I first played tennis in seventh grade because I didn’t want to do track, and I had a few friends who were playing tennis. Coach Bryce and Coach Prough helped me to learn to love the game,” she says. “My tennis coaches Coach Vinyard and Coach Robinson inspire me by always pushing me to do my very best, to see what I am capable of, and to be confident in myself.”
Evyn says her mom is her biggest supporter. She is forever thankful to her mom for being there for her. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Bailey from freshman geometry. “She always puts her students before herself and is understanding and patient. She makes it a point to go to her students’ events to support all of their activities.”
The professional athlete Evyn looks up to is Oklahoma City Spark softball player, Jayda Coleman. “I look up to her because she has such drive and determination that she brings to her sport and also how she gives God the glory in all that she does,” she said.
In addition to tennis, Evyn is on the AHS varsity volleyball team and is a member of the National Honor Society.
