Brayln Speer cannot pinpoint the exact reason softball became an important part of her life. Like most kids, she started out on the T-ball field and grew from there. She thinks the sport was just meant for her. “Softball can be a truly enjoyable activity, offering fun and lively times with teammates both on and off the field.”
Brayln is a freshman pitcher for the Altus Bulldogs softball team. Her favorite part of being a pitcher is the mental challenge of outsmarting a batter and the thrill of high-pressure situations, she says.
“Softball has taught me that life, like the game, is full of highs and lows,” says Brayln. Remembering the following advice, “you are what you choose to become,” keeps her focused on her goals.
She enjoys representing AHS as an athlete. “Working and growing with an amazing team and encouraging a positive attitude from all team members,” she says, is what being on a team is about. Her favorite softball memories are of making friends throughout the area and getting to know new people.
The teammate she looks up to is Kyerra Osborn. “She makes a big impact because she’s very reliable, has a positive attitude and she has outstanding teamwork,” says Brayln. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Prough from Altus Junior High. His passion for teaching created a supportive learning environment that made class enjoyable.
“My parents inspire me because they have always encouraged me to do my best and strive for the best. They have always supported my positive decisions and they have always helped me when I’ve been in trouble.
“Thank you, Mom and Dad, for everything. I’m so grateful for your love, support and guidance throughout my life. I especially appreciate it when you skip events to make it to my softball games. Your sacrifices and encouragement have made a huge difference in who I am today. I love you both!” exclaims Brayln.
Brayln’s life revolves around softball. Her favorite vacation was to Gulf Shores, Alabama, last summer for travel ball nationals. “I don’t really have any other hobbies. I just play travel softball for SWOK Pride and I love making new friends and relationships with other teams.”
After high school, Brayln wants to play college softball at the University of Oklahoma Sooners. Her long-term career goal is to become a NICU nurse.
