Altus’ Samuel Arrington – Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by Cantu’s Heat & Air

Samuel Arrington, a senior at Altus High School, has made a name for himself as a dedicated two-sport athlete, competing in football and wrestling. On the gridiron, Samuel anchors the defense as a middle linebacker, while on the mat, he battles in the 175-pound weight class. His commitment to both sports showcases not only his talent but also his work ethic and discipline.

“Good memories are what motivate me,” Samuel said when asked what drives him to give his best every day. His role models reflect that motivation, with a blend of Fred Warner and Ray Lewis influences shaping the way he approaches the game. “It would be great to play just like them,” he added, pointing to the level of excellence he strives for.

Teachers have also played a pivotal role in Samuel’s journey. Keilan Torres stands out as someone who has impacted him most, believing in Samuel’s abilities and encouraging him to reach his potential both on and off the field. Samuel believes that success in football and wrestling comes down to discipline and sacrifice, a philosophy he lives by in practices, matches, and games alike.

A career highlight that Samuel cherishes is placing at the state wrestling tournament, a testament to his dedication and hard work. On the football field, one of his favorite moments came in his sophomore year when Altus bested Duncan, a victory that still resonates with him. He also treasures the camaraderie built in practice, especially alongside teammate Francisco Herrera, whose passion for the game pushes Samuel to elevate his own performance.

Despite the spotlight often going to the starters, Samuel appreciates the unsung heroes of the team, noting that the scout team members play a critical role in preparing the team each week. Balancing athletics and academics isn’t always easy, he admits, but he prioritizes schoolwork first to maintain that equilibrium.

Representing Altus High School, Samuel says, “The community just respects you, and that’s a great feeling.” His dedication, leadership, and humility make him a standout not only on the field and mat but also in the halls of Altus High, leaving a legacy that will be remembered long after his senior season.
