Altus’ Melynn Bush – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Chad Lee – State Farm Insurance

Melynn Bush is a freshman at Altus High School. She participates in Kay Club, Great Plains Volleyball Club, and cheer. She’s been participating in cheer by starting out with tumbling as a kindergartner. Melynn’s favorite part about cheer is that no matter how the games go, her team is able to bring positivity to the school and gets to help bring the excitement for all of the sports to the students and fans. The highest moment in her career so far, has been placing 5th at a state Game Day cheer competition. She has also previously won All-American twice, and received the Sportsmanship Leader award

Melynn’s biggest positive impact is Sean DeBay. He’s been her tumbling instructor since the 2nd grade and helped her through many obstacles and pushes her to do her best. Her biggest role model has been her brother, Tyler, because he always works hard and is going to school for physical therapy, which is what she plans to do after high school. When things get tough, Melynn puts her faith in God. “He will never fail me and I can always trust in Him,” she says.

Melynn’s favorite subject in school is math, because it’s always come naturally to her. Her favorite teacher is Levi Tovar, because he makes class fun and relates well to his students. In her free time, Melynn likes to spend time with friends and family, attend concerts and OU football games, and listen to music.

To be a great athlete, Melynn says that you have to have dedication and be willing to work hard to improve and be your best. Sports have taught her to be kind and respectful, to work together with her team, and to push herself. Her advice to other athletes is to be kind and supportive to everyone, and not to let frustration take over your emotions.
