Altus’ Maggie Marshall – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Red River Federal Credit Union

Maggie Marshall is a military kid who embraced softball as her place to find instant friends when moving to a new school. She loves everything about the game, from the social part of being on a team, the bus rides, team dinners, making friends and of course the thrill of competition.

Maggie is a freshman and plays catcher for the Altus Bulldogs. “Softball has taught me that when you fail or have an error, to move on to the next play and put that error behind you. Always be looking for the next play,” she said.

The friend and teammate who stands out the most to Maggie is Maci Hayes. “She has been there for me on and off the field. We had an instant connection as the pitcher and catcher for Altus High School softball. She helped to make my freshman year a memorable one,” says Maggie.

While moving schools is part of being in a military family, Maggie started playing T-ball when she was five in Altus. She became more serious about the sport while playing travel softball at eight. Today she proudly represents her school and community as a student-athlete. “I take pride in wearing a Bulldog uniform. I not only represent my high school, but the community of Altus.”

Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Bennett. “She always checks to make sure I understand and am learning in her Spanish class. She makes class fun.” Maggie also loves spending time with friends, traveling and hanging out at Sonic.

The best vacation ever was visiting her dad in Germany during his deployment. “I loved the Christmas markets, food, and exploring all the castles. We also traveled to Paris on that trip and saw the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe,” said Maggie.

Maggie gives special thanks to her mom and dad. “From driving me to practice, lessons and games, to cheering me through every win and loss, their support means everything to me. I appreciate everything y’all do more than words can say,” she exclaims.

After high school, Maggie plans to attend an out-of-state college. She wants to play softball at Florida, Baylor or Tennessee.
