Kyler Hawthorne

Altus High School’s Kyler Hawthorne is a three-sport student-athlete, a member of the FFA chapter, involved in her church youth group, Kay Club, and she’s only a freshman. Hawthorne first got involved in FFA while in middle school, thanks to the encouragement of a family member.
“I first got involved in the FFA my 8th grade year. My sister was the Chapter President and got me involved with the FFA. I’ve watched her be so involved and wanted to try it out for myself,” said Hawthorne.
Entering her second year, Hawthorne has found several activities she enjoys in FFA.
“The thing I enjoy most about the FFA is all of the relationships you build with so many people from different places. I have got to meet people from all over the state through competitions and events. I am involved with the opening and closing ceremonies team, livestock judging team, and the individual and team creed,” said Hawthorne.
For the last three years, Hawthorne has shown whether goats as well.
The freshman said anyone interested in FFA should speak to a representative.
“I would tell someone who wants to join the FFA to absolutely do it, it is a very good way to be involved and learn so many life skills. It is a great way to step out of your box and try something new,” said Hawthorne.
As for the upcoming softball season, Hawthorne said she’s excited to get back on the field with her teammates.
“The thing I love most about softball is having fun with your teammates. It is so fun to be loud and cheer on your other teammates when they make a good play. I have been playing since I was three years old,” said Hawthorne. “The thing I love most about my teammates is their energy. Whether it’s the middle of a game, early summer pride, or hot practice they are always making everyone smile and getting us hyped.”
Hawthorne said she finds inspiration in many people who are part of her life.
“The seniors on my team inspire me in a lot of ways. They are always trying to cheer people up and they set a very good example on not only how an athlete should act but a person. Away from school my parents inspire me. They work full time jobs and are always at all of my games. They are always providing for our family while being supportive on and off the field. They have never missed anything my siblings and I have been involved in and I cannot thank them enough,” said Hawthorne.
The softball, basketball, and track athlete said she hopes to one day attend college and become a softball coach.
