Kyerra Osborn may only be a freshman, but she is leaving her mark on Altus athletics. She is a multi-sport athlete who excels in softball, basketball and track. The thrill of performing her best in front of the supportive Altus Bulldog crowd is the best part of being a student-athlete.
Kyerra’s favorite positions are playing shortstop and catcher on her softball team. “Shortstop is a challenging position where I’m able to showcase my athletic abilities while helping my team and also having an occasional conversation with the umpire. As catcher I get to be a part of every pitch of the game,” she says.
Working through adversity and leadership are skills learned on the softball field. “I enjoy making the people around me proud. That has always brought me joy. It’s an outlet for me and I have learned to love it even when it gets tough.”
Kyerra describes herself as very social and able to make friends anywhere. “I’m rowdy and usually the life of the party,” she says. The time commitment to sports makes it challenging to spend free time with friends and family. However, she enjoys the friendships made through athletics with others who have the same love for the game that she does.
Jenna Blackford is a teammate Kyerra looks up to. “I play all three sports with her. She has been the best role model and my biggest cheerleader. She is my best friend, and I don’t know what I will do without her next year,” said Kyerra.
Following this advice may have led to one of her best game memories she said. “Never give up even when you’re in the worst hitting slump of your life. Never give up.” She recalls a tournament with her 14u team. “We lost early in a tournament and on day two we had to play seven games to make it to the championship and ended up winning it all!”
She is inspired by her parents. “When they set their mind on something it will get done and that’s exactly what I strive to be like. They’ve instilled in me to never give up or quit,” she says. “I would like to say thank you to my parents, Josh Tinsley and Jessica Robinson. I would not be the player or person I am today without you. Thank you for your time, effort, and commitment to making me a better player. I love you guys!”
The best vacation she has gone on was a cruise with her dad and family. “For an entire week, you basically get to do whatever you want while being on a different island every day. Being with all of my sisters is always a great time,” she says.
After high school, Kyerra wants to stretch her wings by attending a college far away. She plans to continue playing softball and get her degree in sports medicine.
