Colby Webb is a teacher at Altus Junior High School. As an educator, he knows that he is there to teach his students. And while it can be tough or stressful at times, you have to search out the positives.
“I enjoy every day being a new opportunity to be around kids that want to learn and know that you care for them as individuals,” he said.
Webb teaches Athletic Leadership, which is like a strength and conditioning class, to seventh and eighth grade students. He is in his first year teaching Altus, but he has also taught at Yukon High School and El Dorado High School in Arkansas. om 2023-2024
There have been people in his life that have helped Colby become the person and teacher that he is today.
“Steven Fitzhugh and Daniel Bristo were two of my high school coaches,” he said. “The character of those two men and the example they set every day inspired me to be a better person. But more than just those two, the impact my high school and college instructors had on me was life changing. I am still in contact with them today and treasure their friendships.”
While each generation is different due to a variety of reasons, Colby says that it is not necessarily the students that are changing.
“Kids are truly no different than they were 20-30 years ago,” he said. “I believe we have lowered our expectations of them.”
During his years of teaching, Webb has received different pieces of advice from other teachers. While he appreciates most of them, he has one that stands out.
“The best advice I received was to keep showing up for the kids,” he said.
When he is not in the classroom teaching, Colby enjoys spending time with his fiancee, Addison Hooper. They plan to get married next summer. He also enjoys exercising, golfing, watching sports, and playing with his two dogs, Pepper and Goose.
